Selecting a recorder
- Channel count: 4-channel for small homes, 8–16 for stores and offices, 32 for large deployments. Buy headroom for future cameras.
- Camera match: DVR pairs with analog cameras; NVR pairs with IP cameras. Hybrid XVR supports both for migration.
- Storage: use a surveillance-grade hard drive sized for your retention period; H.265+ compression roughly doubles recording time vs older codecs.
- Remote access: Hik-Connect (Hikvision) and DMSS (Dahua) apps give live view and playback from your phone.
